Pentax Waterproof Camera Optio W90, Optio WG-1 And Optio WG-1 GPS

This is quite simply the best camera I've ever owned. It is perfect for every situation- underwater or otherwise not. The landscape mode is stunning and brings out the greens and blues in the landscape. Pictures of landscapes from my 14 megapixel Samsung look dim and boring in comparison to Optio W90's landscape mode.

And microscope mode can change the simplest items (sand, dirt, bark) into professional-looking photography. With sand, you can observe the individual grains and shells with incredible detail. I even used this mode on the sweet potato... it looked like a purple grand canyon (yeah, the sweet potatoes in Hawaii are purple for whatever reason). Microscope mode also is effective underwater as well for things such as fish and hermit crabs. Panoramic mode is straightforward to use and patches up to 3 pictures together perfectly (as long as there aren't moving people or cars in the picture... then there are ghosts of these items where it was stitched together). I took a panoramic picture at the top of Diamond Head that looked incredible.

Last but not least, my favourite mode on Pentax Waterproof Camera may be the underwater picture/video mode. I used it while snorkelling  and took stunning pictures and videos of tropical fish, giant sea turtles, squid, and so much more. With my goggles on, I could easily see the screen from the camera and had no trouble change modes while underwater. It had been just as easy to operate underwater as it was above water. I was surprised to learn that the microphone actually acquired sound underwater. You could hear me breathing through the snorkel and if there are people yelling nearby, you can still hear it underwater. My only problem was that whenever there was a lot of sand floating in the water, the camera focused on the floating sand as opposed to the turtle behind it. But this only happened when I put my feet on the sand, which probably kicked up into the water. So be careful about that.

My only semi-complaint is the fact that when on the highest quality settings, the movie mode used a TON of space on my memory. A 90 second video used almost 300MB! Although that is way too large for a video that short, I have still left it on the highest setting because I'd rather not sacrifice any quality (particularly when these videos involve giant sea turtles). Also, optical zoom on Pentax Waterproof Camera Optio W90 just isn't available during video, it is purely digital zoom.

The feel of the Pentax Waterproof Camera WG-1 is great, comfortable to wear in the hands and the operation switches are placed well. There are plenty of options for all shooting modes. I feel for a point and shoot camera the picture quality is way above average. I think most people that by point shoots expect SLR quality photos, which isn't the case.

We bought the new Pentax waterproof camera to replace a previous one. Everything we loved about the old one is still there and it has been significantly improved. The screen is much bigger and brighter and easy to see, the pictures of better, and the case is even easier to hold and take pictures with.

If you want a fun digicam to take hiking, to the seashore, or anything outdoor, this is actually the one. Pentax Waterproof Camera WG-1 great for everyday stuff too!
